A rare Ogoh Ogoh

This guy is unique and came with heavy metal music and the sculptors hung around drinking their moonshine.

Waiting for the procession

Oh Ogoh Ogoh!

Perfect Ogoh Ogoh

Another classic

This guy is ready to devour a young pig which is the favorite meal of the balinese

Little Guys

the young people build the carrying rack and participate in the procession

Classic Ogoh Ogoh

the scary, indestructable spirit (actually just bamboo strips, metal rods and paper mache to be burned late at night amidst huge amounts of new years fire works)

Eight banjars

The gathering of Ogoh Ogohs from all surrounding villages (Banjars)

The Holy Man

Our Banjar's priest saying prayers to initiate the Ogoh Ogoh parade

Shiva as Ogoh Ogoh

Where's Waldo?

One of these folks is not like the rest! There is a blonde infiltrator!

The Ceremony for Ogoh Ogoh Parade

The Balinese lunar new year is called Nyepi. The day before Nyepi (a day of silence, no electricity, no fire or cooking) the most difficult of bad spirits , Ogoh Ogoh is celebrated with his own party and paraded through the streets. All the villages collect their sculptures in one place but prior to that the priest in each banjar, or village, must pray.

Chilling by the pool

It's hard to contain Elena's natural beauty!

Surfer Judy

what a nice little board Judy scored. She has started practice once a week with us and is getting used to the wobbly action of a short board compared to the beginner long board. This is just in our pool practicing her paddling
