Rip Curl Surf Camp
Our little girls have joined two other girls and about 16 boys from Green School for a weekend surf camp put on by Rip Curl in Seminyak. We are very excited to get them inspired for surfing and to continue their lifetime love of water. They are very excited about the joys of "camp"; beach bungalows in Seminyak overrun with their classmates, movies, late night giggling, huge Marco Polo sessions, foozball, socializing, popcorn, pizza, candy, pop....and oh yeah, many sessions in the surf, water safety and self-rescue techniques. Let's hope the surf aint triple overhead.

pop pop pop
Air rifles and their operators
bouncing down the road
motorized bikes whizzing and sputtering
piggy backed children
gazing up to the tree tops for squirrels and birds
rice blankets the muddy terraces
carved over centuries
by countless generations of cultivators
we are here to watch the cycles
threshing, burning, fertilizing
planting, screaming, banging
banana leaf plates
left high and low
for spirits and Gods
with rice balls, oyster crackers
kumquats and dime store candies
insane levels of ritual
pure devotion to the clan
so many green plates
hand crafted daily
Food stuffs
like pig belly, guts and skin
cleaned and fried
laid out carefully for munching
over rice
Dogs, dogs
one rabid
running rough-shod
and a man
with a net
little tiny nibblet filled packages
absolutely everywhere
collected by the cleansing Hindu waters
huge volcanos
brought all to the shores
for a simple communal experience
Now many are here
lost and found
grabbing and giving
the simple offerings

Southern Lombok
Took a 4 hour ferry ride to Lombok for a mini vacation. Lombok is a beautiful Indonesian island probably like what Bali used to be 20 years ago. It is totally undeveloped and lovely. The culture is predominately Muslim which is a big change from the Hindu culture in Bali. We spent our days cruising the southern cliffs by motorbike and swimming in pristine waters. Caught an island hopper flight home for about 20 bucks a person. It was nice to get back home to Bali after being gone a week.
